BEN POREMBA IS THE FOUNDER, CHEF, AND OWNER OF BENGELINA HOSPITALITY GROUP.
HE IS A THREE TIME JAMES BEARD AWARD SEMI-FINALIST.
Ben Poremba is a chef, restaurateur, entrepreneur, designer, and creative director whose work explores the intersection of hospitality, design, craftsmanship, and culture. Born in Israel and based in St. Louis, he is the founder of Bengelina Hospitality Group, where over the past two decades he has conceived, developed, owned, and operated more than twenty restaurant and hospitality concepts. From internationally acclaimed fine dining to neighborhood cafés, bakeries, cocktail bars, and artisan pizzerias, every project is guided by a singular belief: that memorable experiences are created through the thoughtful integration of food, design, storytelling, and genuine hospitality.
Ben's creative role extends far beyond the kitchen. He personally directs the interiors, branding, graphics, and visual identity of his restaurants, treating each project as a complete sensory experience. His passion for design has also led to collaborations and creations beyond hospitality, including fragrances, cigars, tableware, and other objects that celebrate craftsmanship and the rituals of everyday life.
A firm believer in the power of independent businesses to shape cities, Ben has long focused on revitalizing overlooked neighborhoods through thoughtful development and hospitality. His projects transform historic spaces into destinations that strengthen community, preserve character, and foster meaningful human connection.
Travel remains one of Ben's greatest sources of inspiration. Rather than seeking landmarks, he seeks makers—the baker before dawn, the cheesemaker, perfumer, cigar roller, fisherman, vintner, ceramicist, and chef whose work reflects generations of knowledge and place. He believes that understanding a destination begins with understanding the people who dedicate their lives to craft.
For Ben, every restaurant, object, and journey is part of the same pursuit: creating experiences that are intentional, deeply rooted in place, and remembered long after they end.
